You heard right Gormaru island, Pacific Rim 2 will be stomping to theaters 2017, while the animated series will take hold sometimes the end of this year or 2015, either way, time to get excited for more kaiju action!!!

Yes, I was extremely excited to hear the news! I saw it when I was looking up info on Transformers, the announcement must have been made today!

Agreed, I'm more curious and interested within the animated series announcement to be honest, we haven't had a kaiju animated series since....Well, Godzilla:TAS.
On that note, I worry it might be on Cartoon Network, no matter how good a show or ratings are, if it doesn't sell toys, it is pulled off the air. That was the fate of Young Justice and Sym-Bionic Titan unfortunately. Then again, if it does appear on CN then at least it'lll have a broad reach with its audience.
Then again, it could be a web animated series. So many possibilities!

More news on what to expect for the next three years... looks like we'll be getting a much deeper look into the twelve years of backstory of the Pacific Rim universe!

Getting excited about this! Can't wait for this!!!! I'm thinking about adding on a Pacific Rim section, seems more appropriate now that a sequel is confirmed

That does sound like a good idea, before long we should be seeing quite a bit more expanded universe stories for Pacific Rim. I figure that it'll take at least a year to start the animated series, but hopefully it should only take a few months to start an ongoing comic series, which Del Toro said should fill in the entire three year gap between now and the sequel!
